Les Maisons Sur La Rouge is not the first successful venture undertaken by its founders, James and Linda Gentry.
James—known as “Jimmy” to his friends and family—and his wife Linda, formed Gentry Trucking in 1965 with three used lumber trucks. After Jimmy graduated from Northwestern State University, he joined the Shreveport Fire Department. On his days off, he ran hauls around the Ark-La-Tex until 1968, when he purchased a used Kenworth and expanded his operation to include chicken hauls to California, and returned with fresh produce. In 1970 he began adding trucks and today, this family-operated business runs 36 trucks and continues to make the California runs.
James is joined daily by Linda and their children in the business office. Their son Brad runs the day-to-day operations while their daughter Kim set aside her nursing career to manage the financial side of the business. With the trucking business in competent hands, the Gentrys looked to redirect their energy and determination. A forested piece of land on East Kings highway offered an adventure. On a leap of faith, James and Linda purchased this wonderful property and set to work creating 48 home sites along an oxbow lake and among long-standing pecan trees. As he worked, neighbors stopped to give James the history of the property, even down to the date the pecan trees were planted. When you enter the gates of this community, you'll be awe-struck that the unique character of the property remains intact.
James and Linda Gentry are proud to offer Les Maisons Sur La Rouge—many houses on the red—your oasis of calm and beauty in northwest Louisiana—"Solitude within the City."
